April 15: Katie Webb ranked second in UK Cross-Country Rankings after a super season

MMK’s National U13s Champion, Katie Webb, was ranked second in the UK behind Brighton’s Katherine Haslip in a very close contest. Katie and Katherine raced each other three times over the winter. In the English National Championships at Parliament Hill Fields, Katie won and Katherine was second. In the Inter-County Championships at Prestwick Hall, the positions were reversed. In their only other meeting at the South of England Championships at Beckenham, Katherine was third, just seven seconds ahead of Katie, and was thus given the nod in the UK Rankings.

Katie was undefeated in the Chiltern League (except at the MK Cross Challenge where she was first Chiltern League but second overall) and was second in the Southern Inter Counties at Croydon in December. At the Bucks Championships she was second behind MMK’s Olivia Chilton.

At the Bucks Schools Championships at Stowe, running as a first-year Junior Girl, she was second behind MMK’s Elsie Jacobs (another first-year Junior Girl) to be selected to represent Bucks Schools at the English Schools’ Championships at Tonbridge, where she finished 10th (the first first-year junior). This result gained her a coveted English Schools vest at the Home Countries International at Pembrey Country Park, near Llanelli, where she came home first on the opening leg in the winning English Schools’ Mixed Junior Relay Team.
