With the sport in lock-down, people have been thinking of inventive ways of staying fit and healthy. This weekend was supposed to have been the National Senior Men’s 12-stage and Women’s 6-stage Road Relay Championships. It was cancelled along with thousands of other events.
However, a couple of runners proposed that the virtual relays be held instead, with each runner completing an isolated 5km run, using Strava to record their times. The idea took off slowly at first, but in recent days has exploded exponentially (like something else we know). By the deadline at 12 noon, the total entries was 4998. Runs can be completed between Saturday, 4 April and Wednesday, 8 April.
