September 4: Wootton’s Michael Aldridge and MMK’s Alice Ritchie win the Silverstone 10k

The Silverstone 10k, held later this year due to maintenance work on the track, incorporated the Milton Keynes Primary Schools Challenge and the Northants County 10km Championships.

A group of three worked together on the first lap but it was Michael Aldridge (Wootton Road Runners) who forged ahead to win the race. Tom Comerford was the first MMK runner to finish in seventh place, while Steve Herring finished 15th to claim the M50 award.

In the women’s race, MMK’s Alice Ritchie was never headed, winning in 37:01, just 5 seconds shy of her personal best. Natasha Baker and Fern Yull completed the team.

Marshall Milton Keynes finished second in the Team event (four to score, male or female), including Alice, but the Men slipped to third place (four men to score), while the MMK women (three to score) finished second.

Zien Zhou won the wheelchair race.

In the MK Primary Schools Challenge, held in conjunction, Alice was the first runner to finish, male or female, as Middleton Primary School took the honours.
